Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 2026-11-04
Some Business, LLC d/b/a Speech is Cheap operates the https://speechischeap.com website, the API service, and the MCP server at https://mcp.speechischeap.com, which provide the Service.
This page is used to inform website visitors and API users regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use our Service, the speechischeap.com website, the API service, and the MCP server.
If you choose to use our Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation with this policy. The Personal Information that we collect are used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.
The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, which is accessible at https://speechischeap.com/terms, unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.
Information Collection and Use
For a better experience while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information, including but not limited to your name, phone number, and postal address. The information that we collect will be used to contact or identify you.
API and MCP Connections
This section explains what we receive when you use our API or connect our Model Context Protocol server, or MCP server, to an AI app such as ChatGPT or Claude.
What We Receive
- Apps that connect through OAuth, such as ChatGPT and Claude, send you to our authorization page at mcp.speechischeap.com, where you enter your Speech is Cheap API key. We check the key with our API and store it encrypted in a connection record. The AI app gets its own access tokens and never receives your API key from us.
- Some clients send your API key in a request header instead. We pass it to our API with each request, and the MCP server does not store it.
- Tool requests include media URLs, job IDs, output formats, and transcription options such as speaker labels, word timestamps, language, and private mode. When we process a job, our API fetches the media from its URL.
- The
prepare_uploadtool receives a local file path and returns a command for you to run on your computer. The tool does not read or receive the file. The command uploads it from your computer directly to our Upload API. - We return transcripts, job status, and upload commands.
- We record job metadata, which includes the job ID, options, media URL except for private jobs, webhook URL, user agent, status, and error messages.
We do not collect your conversations or your AI account profile.
How We Use It
We use this data to connect and authenticate your account, transcribe media, return results, bill for minutes used, and operate and improve the Service.
Who Receives It
- The AI app you connect, such as ChatGPT or Claude, receives the transcripts and job status we return. Its provider handles them under its own privacy policy. We do not send your Speech is Cheap API key to the app.
- Cloudflare hosts the website, API, and MCP server, and stores connection records. Amazon Web Services stores transcripts.
- Our own transcription software runs on GPU workers rented from a cloud compute provider. That provider's platform receives each job request, which includes the media URL, your options, and our callback address. It relays the transcript output to us and temporarily keeps job records and worker logs. It never receives your API key, name, or email.
- Our Upload API runs on a server rented from a hosting provider. That server holds uploaded files until cleanup, normally within 75 minutes.
- Stripe receives your account ID and the minutes used, for billing.
- PostHog receives job metadata and your account ID, which help us operate and improve the Service. It does not receive transcripts or API keys.
- If you set a webhook URL through the API, we send job results, including transcripts, to that URL. The MCP tools do not set webhooks.
Retention and Your Controls
- The connection record that holds your encrypted API key expires 30 days after it is created or last renewed. Each successful token refresh by the AI app renews it for another 30 days. If the AI app revokes its refresh token, we delete the connection record.
- Revoking your API key in the Dashboard stops it from working for future requests, including requests through MCP connections. Revocation does not delete the connection record, which expires as described above.
- We keep transcripts and job metadata indefinitely by default. For private jobs, we delete transcript segments after 12 hours and keep operational metadata.
- We keep API and MCP server logs for up to 7 days.
- To request deletion, email privacy@speechischeap.com. We cannot delete copies already returned to your AI app. Its provider controls those copies.
Security and Data Handling describes our detailed retention practices, including media cleanup and backups.
x402 Wallet Payments
What We Collect
- For each paid purchase, we store the paying wallet address, signed payment authorization, settlement transaction hash, Stripe payment record ID, quote details (duration, options, and price), and resulting job.
- Job metadata and transcripts follow the same handling as other API jobs.
- Unpaid quotes store the requested duration, options, and calculated price.
Who Receives It
- Coinbase Developer Platform verifies and settles the payment as the x402 facilitator.
- Stripe receives the USDC deposit, records the payment, and issues refunds.
- The Base blockchain publicly records wallet addresses and transaction hashes for all settled transfers. Anyone can view these on-chain records.
Retention
- We keep paid purchase records indefinitely, following our default retention for transcripts and job metadata.
- We delete unpaid quotes about an hour after they expire.
- On-chain blockchain records are public and cannot be deleted by us.
- Deletion requests for off-chain records go to privacy@speechischeap.com.
Log Data
We want to inform you that whenever you visit our Service, we collect information that your browser sends to us that is called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your computer's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser version, pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics.
Website Analytics
We use Google Analytics and PostHog to understand how visitors use our public website. PostHog heatmaps collect cursor positions, clicks, mobile taps, and scrolling activity so we can see which parts of a page visitors use. We capture clicks and taps without collecting entered form values.
On the free transcription landing page, PostHog collects page visits and heatmap coordinates without recording the page's contents. That page itself does not send entered audio URLs, filenames, audio, transcripts, or result identifiers to PostHog. When you submit a free demo job on our website, our API records its job metadata in PostHog, including the media URL and job ID, as described in API and MCP Connections. Shared transcription results and the checkout confirmation page are excluded from PostHog tracking. Session recording is disabled.
